The 10-day American Film Institute’s Los Angeles International Film Festival is the longest-running LA film festival. It features competitions of films by new filmmakers and showcases the latest works of established masters. Screenings take place at ArcLight Cinemas. 866.234.3378.
Los Angeles has a very peculiar food culture, with a wide variety of amazing white table cloth restaurants, as well as thousands of drive-through fast food joints that might expect in a place that more or less invented the modern-day car culture.
You’ll find plenty of McDonald’s and Taco Bells, both of which got their starts in Southern California, but you’ll also find a number of lesser-known fast food restaurants that are beloved to those of us who grew up in the area. The most common definition of a “flashpacker” is someone who has the spirit of a backpacker, but who also has the budget and technology preferences that go a bit further. Flashpackers travel with technology and they feel like they are past the stage in their lives when sharing a dorm or hostel with 19 other people is their idea of a perfect holiday.
Still, there are good ways and bad ways to stay plugged-in when travelling. Recent inventions mean that flashpackers can carry all the essential gear inside of a small daypack, and still have room to spare for a light jacket and umbrella.

US celeb Nicky Hilton, recently strut her stuff in Australia as part of Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival and of course chose to fly out of LAX on V Australia. When landing and after a nice long sleep was escorted by our fly girls through the paparazzi!

Our sister airline, Virgin Blue, recently celebrated National Hoodie Day, with some new gear for the Cabin Crew.
The hoodies were worn in support of the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) and Virgin Blue’s four-year sponsorship of the program. This year was the AIME’s first National Hoodie Day, but was quite the success, with fellow supporters including: Ian Thorpe, Libby Trickett, The South Sydney Rabbitohs, The NSW Waratahs and Wendell Sailor; business man Andrew Forrest and entertainer Adam Spencer.

Australia will come a little bit closer to Los Angeles on July 15 when the Santa Monica Pier’s Twilight Concert Series will host a night of all-Australian music. Australian singer/songwriter Ben Lee (We’re All in This Together, Cigarettes Will Kill You) will be joined by two exciting new acts to showcase some of the best of what contemporary Australian music has to offer.
