Los Angeles is a key destination for Virgin Australia, both as a popular business and holiday spot for Australians and as the gateway hub for guests travelling to North and Central America, as well as Canada. Virgin Australia operates flights from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney to Los Angeles, while its alliance partner Delta Air Lines also operates flights from Sydney to Los Angeles. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is undergoing a $14 billion modernisation program, which is designed to help improve the passenger experience and relieve traffic congestion, to evolve LAX into a world-class airport. As part of this program, one of the largest terminal moves in the history of commercial aviation will occur at LAX this month.
Virgin Australia flights to and from Los Angeles will continue to operate from the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) at LAX. Virgin Australia check-in will relocate from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2, with check-in to commence at Terminal 2 on 13 May 2017. After check-in, guests should follow signs to TBIT for their Virgin Australia flight departure.
Delta Air Lines is relocating from Terminals 5 and 6 to Terminals 2 and 3 at LAX. Delta’s move is a precursor to the airline’s $1.9 billion plan to modernise, upgrade and connect Terminals 2, 3 and TBIT at LAX over the next seven years. The move is scheduled to start on 12 May and will impact 21 airlines during a one-week period. During this time, guests connecting between Delta Air Lines and Virgin Australia flights should see staff and information screens for up-to-date flight information.
Virgin America is relocating from Terminal 3 to Terminal 6 on 12 May and plans to commence operations at Terminal 6 on 13 May.
From 13 May, transfer buses will operate from Terminals 2 and 3 to connect guests to their Virgin Australia flights in TBIT. Guests should simply provide their boarding passes at the Bus Gates at Gate 35 (T3) and Gate 22 (T2).
Guests can confirm their check-in information on the Virgin Australia website. Information will be updated as changes occur so passengers are advised to visit the website before travelling. Guest itineraries will be updated to provide the correct terminal check-in information.
During the move, additional staff will be on hand to assist with directions throughout LAX.
